Simple email blogging

The way I write posts for this website is with a static website generator. I write Markdown, the Github action does the rest. I have had to create some filenaming convention for myself so that things are reasonbly well arranged, but other than that, I have managed to keep the workflow as simple as pushing to main. But I also yearn for a simpler blogging system, where I don't have to commit to git to deploy a new version of a little bit of text, specially since I want to replace my social media channels with my own systems. And I just want to send stuff to my friends.

FTP

I thought I could write some Markdown files, collect images, upload it to an FTP server and turning that into a blog post, but that turned out to be quite cumbersome to use. I loved the idea of using my favorite text editor to do all the writing, it was very unweildy to control. I could just set a time window to upload, but that seemed clunky and writing captions for the images were bit of a pain. Remembering an entire set of human-machine protocol to write a little bit of text and post some photographs seemed like something I wouln't enjoy.

Email

Then I realised how nice email would be for this purpose. Blogger used to have a similar feature; unfortunately most modern blogging platform don't support it out of the box (anymore?); email blogging isn't really a thing anymore, but I can't help but love the simplicity of composing an email and just send it off. So I setup a simple postfix mail server to store emails, then I can manage to write some software that will turn that into a Ghost blog post, or Hugo page, or a Jekyll page. Email is truly the best invention of the last century; I started my newsletter after falling in love with email for the second time. I hope I will actually finish this email blogging project this time. If I still manage to not finish the project to a usable degree, I guess I will just start posting on substack.
