Move to desktop linux

I suppose at some point I had to make this jump. The Linux subsystem for Window was good, when it worked, but sometimes it didn't and it caused considerable amount of frustration. I was also getting a little bit tired of Windows in general and the bloated state of modern computing. So last Friday, after work I took my bike, went to the local computer store and bought myself a 1TB SSD, to install Linux on it. I spent the whole evening playing around with EFI bootloaders, but eventually made dual-booting work on my gaming machine. It was a good evening!

Since I picked up neovim after JetBrain's RustRover IDE went out of early access, I haven't been out of my terminal much; I also started maintaining my own Dotfiles to be used across my work MacBook & my home computer. That way I can enjoy a seamless development experience in and out of weekend. This essentially led to the fact that I have not left the terminal & the browser in some time. So when WSL betrayed my last week, I decided to make a move!

The hustle

It took my some time to get dual boot working. I haven't dual booted anything since 2000s and with modern UEFI boots & Windows Secure Boot mode there was a bit of reading involved. But I eventually managed to install Manjaro and dual boot into it. I have had a NixOS installation running on my old MacBook for some time now, but I haven't really used it except for the novelty of NixOS. So the first few hours of a nice clean GNOME desktop was very refreshing.

The enjoyment

These days with fancy customizations & themes available out-of-the-box, I am enjoying being in my sleek distaction free Linux environment. Modern terminal emulators such as kitty are also excellent. As I am writing this post on my tmux + neovim with cute themes, I can't think of moving back to Window, except for gaming maybe.
